Our growing area consist of 6 shadehouses, the largest of which houses 1.5 acres of azaleas, 6 igloos, 5 major growing pads with several smaller ones throughout the nursery, propagation with 2 igloos (1 outfitted with heat beds and the other for hardening of tube stock), a quarantine shade house and a 1000sq metre orchid shade house.
The cultivating success of Bau Farm is highly due to the top quality of plants produced. We pride ourselves on this standard of quality that gives us the cutting edge in the nursery industry’s very competitive market. Our team of skilled staff ensures that this standard of quality is maintained or improved.
History in brief
1886
Edwin Seccombe, a prominent dairy farmer and member of one of the district’s pioneer families, purchased Bau Farm. Bau Farm has retained its name to the present day and we believe the name is of German origin. Seccombe was credited for introducing to the dairy industry the succulent herbage, paspalum grass.1976
Bau Farm was purchased by Laurie McDonald who then owned the famous Sherringhams Retail Nursery in Sydney. With the exception of contract growing for supermarkets, Bau Farm's main objective then was to supply the steady increase in retail outlets in Sydney under the Sherringhams banner.1986
The Sherringhams group was acquired by Tutt Bryant Group of Companies, a large corporate company based in the United Kingdom. Over the next 2 years, Tutt Bryant sold off 2 wholesale and 3 retail nurseries leaving Sherringhams Retail Nursery in Sydney and Bau Farm in northern NSW.1987
Bau Farm became a separate profit centre and immediately moved into growing and selling to the open market. Over the next decade, we firmly established ourselves as a major supplier into S E Queensland whilst continuing to increase our customer base in Sydney and Melbourne.1995
Bau Farm's highest achievement winning the prestigious "Grower of the Year" award presented by Queensland Nursery Industry Association in recognition of superior customer service, plant quality and nursery presentation. To receive this award when located in New South Wales was indeed an honour for Bau Farm.1997
Bau Farm once again changed hands and was purchased by Li & Belinda Chang and Jenny Wu. Under the direction of the new management, Bau Farm's growing capacity has increased by 30% to supply the ever-increasing market share that we enjoy. In addition to our recently developed outdoor growing area of 3 acres, is our much-needed new propagation facility. The new propagation area became operational in August 1999.1998
Bau Farm became an accredited nursery under the guidelines of Nursery Industry Association of Australia and as a nationally recognised nursery of "Best Practice", we are continually operating under those guidelines and consistently producing quality and healthy plants.2002
With financial assistance from the AAA Farm Innovation programme and expertise from Southern Cross University and NSW Dept of Agriculture, we saw the completion of an artificial wetland water treatment scheme. This method was chosen because it is more environmentally friendly, recycling water in a natural and non chemical way.2003
Bau Farm earned the prestigious "Award of Excellence for Outstanding Achievement" presented by NGINA.
